Lt Col Edith Nakalema, the head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit has broken her silence over yesterday's raid of Bank of Uganda by her team after a tip off regarding fishy deals.

In a brief statement issued today, Nakalema confirmed that her team was carrying out investigations regarding a recent procurement consignment. She did not reveal the details of the investigations although sources say it is related to printing of unauthorised money amounting to Shs 90 billion.

She said she had been invited by the governor, Tumusiime Mutebile

"A number of bank personnel, customs and Civil Aviation Authority personnel are being questioned," she said.

The Nile Post has learnt that at least five officials were arrested yesterday by a combined team of police and soldiers attached to Special Forces Command.

Investigators areĀ  trying to establish how such big sums of money could be printed without the knowledge of the top leaders of the bank including both the Governor and his deputy.

We have been told that more senior people could be arrested as investigators try to reach to the bottom of the matter.
