Apac district chairman arrested after Shs 2 bn "mysteriously lands" on his account

Police at Parliament yesterday arrested Apac district chairperson Okae Bob for fraudulently receiving over Shs 2 billion on his personal account in the financial year 2017/2018.

The money was deposited on his personal account in a suspicious manner and on average he received between Shs 3 million and Shs 10 million every two days.

The arrest was executed when Apac district officials appeared before the Local Government Accounts committee which is chaired by Judith Franca Akello.

The officials fromĀ  spent half of the day before the committee trying to answer queries raised in the Auditor General report for the financial year 2017/2018.

During the interrogation, the MPs discovered that the chairperson could not account for the huge sums of money on his personal account.

Okae admitted receiving the money which he said was for monitoring of government programs in the district.

He argued that part of the money was given to his executive committee members for official duties.

Members however were not persuaded and they ordered the parliamentary police to arrest the officials as investigations into the matter continue.
