The suspect, Irene Apio Akello.

“Lying in the pool of blood, the body had multiple knife stab wounds in chest area where all the property in the hotel room was scattered, a sign that there was a scuffle before Otula was stabbed.”

The Kampala Metropolitan Police mouthpiece said investigations showed them that the two had first shared food and alcohol because the same was found on a table in the hotel room.

Leads

According to Owoyesigyire, further investigation led detectives to a knife which was full of blood dumped in a flower vessel near the room’s door.

“Statements were recorded from staff of the hotel who included the acting manager and the caretaker who gave useful leads to investigators,”Owoyesigyire said.

The police spokesperson said that information from the staff indicated that they had seen one Irene Apio Akello, 24 at the hotel prompting investigators to follow the lead.

“We mounted an operation and followed her up until she was finally arrested.”

Owoyesigyire said that on arrest, Apio admitted to killing Otula by stabbing him in the chest from behind.

It is said that the 24 year old lady said she had killed Otula by accident.

“The body was taken to the city mortuary for a postmortem as investigations into the motive of the killer are still ongoing,” he said.
