Natuhereza's UCU Canons tops first round of men's national basketball league
UCU Canons beat Kampala University 81-49 in their final game of the first round of the men's national basketball league played at the Lugogo indoor stadium.
With a 10-01 record Nicolas Natuhereza's Mukono based has ended the first round top of the 12 team pile with 21 points.
UCU has only lost once this season against arch rivals KIU Titans.
Despite the side's consistency all through the eleven games, head coach Nicolas Natuhereza says he was surprised by his team's performance but hopes to perform even better in the second round.
“I don’t think we have played as good as we can play, we can execute better offensively if we can’t out the careless mistakes, like if you look back at the loss against KIU we were careless, we beat Warriors but all through the game we gave them easy points,
So if we cut that out, I will say we are playing at a level that is convincing.
First round is done, the target in the second round is to perform much better and finish in the top four” Natuhereza said.
One of their players Jerry Kalyanga is hoping to cement his place on the team.
"We have been working hard as a team, and it has been a great first round, this has been one the big games I have played, always wished to drop as many points as I can and will keep working hard so as to get a place on the team
With 20 points, and two losses , the Warriors finished second a point ahead of defending champions City Oilers who lost three of their eleven games.
In the ladies category, JKL Lady Dolphins topped the ten team log with a perfect 9-0 record and 18 points, one ahead of the lady Canons who lost only one game in the first half of the regular season.
