100 individuals to receive medals on this years Heroes Day celebrations
One hundred different individuals will receive medals at this year's Heroes Day celebrations on Sunday, 9th June.
The medals will be awarded by President Museveni to the different individuals who have exhibited heroism in different capacities.
The announcement was revealed by the minister of Presidency Esther Mbayo ahead of the celebrations.
She added that the idea of celebrating Heroes Day is to celebrate and protect the inheritance our heroes and heroines left behind.
"The idea behind such a national gathering is to celebrate, preserve, protect and propagate the precious inheritance in the name of liberty that our heroes and heroines left us," she told journalists at the Uganda Media Centre.
She said that we owe a great debt to the heroes and heroines who fought for this country to be free and that this is a dept we can never repay nor forget.
This year's celebrations will be celebrated at Kasanje Town Council, Wakiso under the theme of "Celebrating the courageous heroes that brought the peace and prosperity that we are enjoying."
In the late 1980's, Kasanje was a fighting ground for the NRA against the UNLA in the battle to literate Uganda.
The minister appealed to Ugandans to emulate the heroes and consolidate the values they fought for.
She said that these laid a firm foundation for the country's progress.
