65 year old woman hacks six grandchildren to death; Mob kills her

Grief ripped residents of Nombe 2B village, Kashere parish, Rubindi sub-county in Mbarara district when a 65 year old woman hacked to death six grandchildren and her children before she was killed by a mob.

The incident according to Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson happened on Sunday when Lydia Kyomuhangi, 65 picked her grandchildren and locked them in the kitchen after buying them soda and biscuits.

She then run to the house where she found her husband, George Hangamisho and cut him using a panga and left him injured before she rushed to another bedroom where she hacked her mentally ill daughter, Annet Kyomukama, 25 to death.

“She returned to the kitchen and cut to death all the six grandchildren using the same panga before disappearing,”Kasasira said.

The police mouthpiece identified the deceased grandchildren as Osbert Nuwamanya, 8, Oscar Tarimweba,5, Mercy Owomugisha, 6 months, Adela Orishaba,9 months, and Apophia Kanshabe 10 years.

Police also said Kyomuhangi’s husband, Hangamaisho, 70, who sustained sever injuries was rushed to Mbarara hospital in critical condition.

Suspect killed my mob

According to the police mouthpiece, a mob descended on Kyomuhangi before beating and killing her instantly after the gruesome incident.

“It has been established that Kyomuhangi has been suffering from  a seasonal mental disorder and it is suspect it could have drove her to kill her grandchildren and daughter,” Kasasira said.
