Police issues terror alert ahead of Martyrs Day in Namugongo

Police have issued a terror alert ahead of the June 3 Martyrs Day celebrations in Namugongo.

The force's intelligence revealed that some suspected terrorists could have entered Uganda using the porous borders.

In response, the police is strictly scrutinising pilgrims, service providers and  has installed CCTV cameras at different spots at Namugongo shrines in an attempt to foil the claimed planned attack.

The police's deputy spokesperson Polly Namaye announced the terror threats urging citizens in and outside Namugongo to be vigilant.

"I would like to encourage that wherever you are whether in Namugongo or any other place, to be on alert because we have intelligence that there are suspected people who could have entered our country and we don’t not know where they are. Please be more vigilant and alert the police for whatever you suspect," she said.

At Namugongo, police has improvised more CCTV cameras and will use aviation support to foil a possible terror attack.

The force is also doing fresh accreditation of service providers to be sure they are have no links with the suspected wrongdoers.
