Nsibambi burial set for Tuesday- Family

The family of former premier Apolo Robinson Nsibambi, has released a tentative funeral program.

According to the family, the former premier is set to be buried on Tuesday at his ancestral home in Buloba.

“We should have buried him on Monday but it is impossible since it is martyrs’ day, we therefore have settled for Tuesday,” a family member said.

Nsibambi’s body will lay in state at parliament for last respects, eulogising and viewing on Friday May 31.

“Just like you all know, he was a government official and that is the process,” the family member added.

Meanwhile government has taken over the burial arrangements of Nsibambi claiming it is their duty to give him a befitting burial.

According to Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, there will be a church service for Nsibambi at his home in Bulange today evening.

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be church service again at his home in the evening. On Monday at 12:00pm, the body will move from the funeral home to his home.

On Tuesday, there will be church service at Namirembe cathedral at 9:00am and later at 4:00pm, Nsibamabi will be buried in Buloba.

Yesterday, social media was awash with the news of Prof Apolo Nsibambi’s death.

The former Prime Minister succumbed to cancer aged 78. A myriad of social media users took to their platforms to react to his death with the vast majority of those talking about him as a one who served Uganda with a distinction.

Among these, were political leaders who praised his honesty. Both the ruling party, NRM and the opposition agree that Nsibambi (RIP) served his country with out any corruption scandals or any instances of oppressive conduct.

President Museveni has praised former Prime Minister, Prof. Apollo Nsibambi for his tireless efforts that contributed to the development of the country.

Prof. Nsibambi, 78, the country’s longest serving prime minister from 1999 to 2011 died of cancer on Tuesday at his home in Bulange, Lubaga division in Kampala.

Speaking at the deceased’s home, Museveni said he first met Nsibambi while still in the bush and he (Nsibambi) was introduced as a great monarchist.

“When we came back from the bush, that’s when I had the chance to properly meet Apollo Nsibambi at Makerere where lecturers were protesting for living wages and I had to meet them,”Museveni said.
