Court orders for Matayo Kyaligonza's arrest

Court in Mukono has ordered for the arrest of Maj. General (RTD) Matayo Kyaligonza and his body guards to answer charges of assaulting a police in April this year, Nile Post reports.

Chief Magistrate Juliet Hantanga said that Kyaligonza and his two body guards Pte John Okurut and CPL Peter Busindiche must be arrested and appear in court on 10th June after defying court summons for a while now.

Kyaligonza's, through his lawyers Caleb Alaka and David Balondemu said he was not able to attend the court session because he is being tried in two courts as this case is also being heard in the General Court Martial and so he can't be attending concurrent proceedings with similar facts.

Mukono Chief Magistrate Juliet Hantanga dismissed the claims and insisted on having Kyaligonza and his bodyguards arrested.

The victim, Ms. Namaganda was present in court.

Senior State Attorney, Jonathan Muwaganya said that Gen. Kyaligonza's failure to respond to criminal summons from court is a sign of disrespect and that calls for an arrest warrant to be issued.
