State attorney granted bail in 6 million shillings bribe case
The Anti-Corruption court headed by Grade 1 Magistrate Sarah Namusobya, this afternoon released on bail of shs.10 million, Simon Kigwana, the state attorney in the DPP’s office attached to Nabweru Magistate’s court. Kigwana is accused of soliciting a UGX. 6 million bribe to frustrate a suspected kidnapper's bail application.
Prosecution stated that on 14thMay, Kigwana directly solicited for a shs.6M bribe from Octavia Kasumba and Zam Ndagire to keep a suspect in custody. Kigwana pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that the 48 year old Kigwana on 15thMay, at Nabweru Court accepted a gratification of shs.200,000 from Zam Ndagire to block a bail application of Abdul Jagwe, a suspected kidnapper.
Kigwana through his lawyer, James Kiiza applied for bail citing innocence, which was granted to him.
His case has been adjourned to 18thJune for mentioning, as the state also continues with inquires.
