France donates Shs 837 bn to improve water distribution in Isingiro, Masaka and Mbarara

The long standing problem of water shortage in Isingiro, Mbarara and Masaka could be resolved after the government of France gave € 196 million (Shs 837 billion) to National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to help in developing a mechanism of drawing water from River Kagera to the districts.
The managing director of NWSC Silver Mugisha said parliament approved this funding and they have been working very closely with the ministries of Finance and Water to ensure that it is availed.
Mugisha said the money will be used to develop a mechanism to extract water water from River Kagera and distribute it in Masaka, Isingiro and Mbarara. The project is expected to be completed before the end of 2020.
He said there are other water projects in the pipeline and promised that by 2030, water supply in the country be will be at 100 percent.
Alex Rusangara, the project coordinator in Isingiro district said this will be a dual project whereby the water drawn will be used for agricultural production and for domestic use.
