Bright Stars FC in Uganda Cup final as Proline returns to top flight

Bright stars FC have edged Express 3-2 on penalties to qualify for the Uganda Cup final in a game played at the Muteesa II stadium  Wankulukuku.

Express FC went in the lead in the third minute following Revita's free kick. The Red Eagles remained upfront till the end of the first half despite efforts from Bright stars’ captain Nelson Senkatuka .

An 80th minute equalizer from James Anguu sent the game into spotkicks.

The visitors were more clinical from the spot. Micheal Birungi was denied by the woodwork, before teammates Davis Mayanja and Sadiq Sekyembe also failed to hit the target.

Only Disan Galiwango and John Revita converted for George Simwogerere's side.

Rajab Kakooza,, Farouk Katongole and captain Nelson Senkatuka all converted for the visitors to eject the seven time champions 3-2 and set up a final with Proline Fc on the 25th of May at the Masaka Recreation grounds.

Bright stars head assistant coach Paul Kiwanuka said his team deserved to win and had no kind words for Express’ George Simwogerere.

“My team played well, they came from a goal down to eliminate the Red Eagles. I heard coach Sim talk about bad pitches so God answered his prayers, he wont play on what he reffered to as a bad pitch in the final," he said.

He added, “I think Proline FC is a good team just like mine since we are both on the final so we shall sort ourselves from Masaka recreational ground.”

For coach Simwogerere, his boys were just un fortunate to miss the penalties to see them through.

“My boys played so well, its unfortunate that bright stars equalised and managed to convert their penalties, something my players failed to do. We shall improve and come back better next season,” Simwogerere said.

At the end of the game, the Express fans were left calling for the sacking of Simwogerere.

Meanwhile, Proline FC has become the second team to be promoted to the startimes Uganda Premier League after a 2-0 win over Kabale Sharp at the Kabale Municipal Stadium.

Goals from Mandela and Bright Anukani saw Shafiq Bisaso’s side get the three points they wanted to get promotion to the top tier as Rwenzori group leaders  with 42 points.

Proline will face Elgon group leaders Wakiso Giants for the big league title.

Dove FC and Kansai Plascon played out to a two all draw in Mukono as they both cruised to the playoffs.

Mark Twinamatsiko's Doves will hope to fly over Jackson Mayanja's Kyetume FC while Kansai Plascon will face UPDF as they four teams fight for the one available slot left for a place into the Startimes Uganda Premier league next season.
