Before the game, Maroons players mounted a guard of honour as a sign of respect to the new kings in town.

Meanwhile, the party had just started at Lugogo when the master of the ceremony on the day, Uganda Premier League’s Gordon Roy Mundeyi and KCCA FC’s Moses Mwanje summoned the champions’ staff including the statistics team, doctors, coaches and finally players to the podium.

They were handed medals by officials led by FUFA president Moses Magogo, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and acting KCCA Executive Director, Eng.Andrew Kitaka among other dignitaries.

Former players Baker Masiko and Paul Ssali would later present the trophy to the officials who then handed it over to the players for fan to begin.

With players lining up at the podium with their medals, the champagne bottles started rolling out and soon it would be a galore of alcoholic fountains sprouting from green bottles.

Players then took turns in posing for photo moments with the silverware.

It was merry making at Lugogo that later saw a case cut and everyone at the stadium including fans had a fair share of it.

Speaking to Nile Post, KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi said winning the trophy was a good accountability for the team for what it has done this season.

“The season has been good because we won the trophy despite playing below 50% of our ability. We used young players from our grassroots and now they know the responsibility ahead of them,”Mutebi said.

The game ensured KCCA FC ended the season on 66 points, seven above second placed Vipers Sports Club.

KCCA FC’s 13th title confirms Mutebi, commonly referred to as the gaffer as one of the finest local coaches to grace Ugandan football.

While Kasasiro boys’ admirers will point to the 16 titles that record league champions SC Villa have, KCCA are in the league of their own having won the league five times in the last seven years since 2013.

The Lugogo side is only three titles shy of struggling SC Villa whereas this is Mike Mutebi’s third league title at KCCA FC having joined them at the start of the 2015/16 season.

KCCA FC has previously won the league in 1976, 1977, 1981, 1983, 1985, 1991, 1997, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
