Wakiso Giants make it to the Startimes Uganda Premier League, Proline held by Plascon

Wakiso Giants FC will now rub shoulders with the big boys after earning promotion to the Startimes Uganda Premier league following a 2-1 win over Entebbe FC at the Kyabazinga stadium in Bugembe, Jinja.

Goals from Norman Ojik and Kenneth Wadira ensured the purple sharks filled the first of three spots available.

Wakiso Giants’ head coach Ibrahim Kirya said, "Am happy with my team, my fans and everyone there who supported us, we are now in the 2019/2020 Uganda premier league.”

Wakiso Giants defender Ayub Kisaliita believes this is a dream come true and hopes they will finish their first season in the top four;

“This is a dream come true, we have been working and training together as a team, we had a goal to come to the super division we have made it there and we hope to finish in the top four in the startimes Uganda premier league,” Kisaliita said.

Wakiso Giants lost only one game in the campaign and are top of the Elgon group with 40 points while already relegated Entebbe FC is second last with 16 points.

However, Proline was forced to postpone their qualification after a one all draw against Kansai Plascon at the startimes stadium in Lugogo.

A penalty equalizer by Kansai’s Sula Bagala cancelled out Ivan Bogere’s 60th minute lead to delay direct promotion back to the Startimes Uganda premier league.

Bogere should have put Proline in the lead again but the offside flag was up against him to halt their promotion.

Proline head coach Shafic Bisaso blames fatigue as their Achilles heel but not ruling out a positive response in the next game

“It’s been a tough game and a tough week for us, three games in six days, I think it has been too hard for the boys because of fatigue, but at least we have got a point and I hope we shall win our next game to get promoted back to the Startimes Uganda premier league,” said Bisaso.

Proline now must win their last game against Kabale Sharp if they are to get direct promotion to the Startimes Uganda Premier League as table leaders.

Proline remain top of the log on 39 points, Kansai Plascon a point shy on 38.
