The Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago yesterday commissioned the survey of Lusanja land to clarify on the dispute arising from claims by a businessman Medard Kiconco that the land belongs to him.

The dispute according to court order are about the exact location of the land and it is the reason surveyors have been deployed to confirm its location.

The lawyers and surveyors from the side of Kiconco did not turn up for the exercise.

But Lukwago said the exercise will go on with or without the presence of the other surveyors because it is the only way residents can be helped.

He said: "This survey was meant to have both sides that is the accusers and the accused but on this day, Medard Kiconco has not delivered his side of what he promised in court, but that will not stop us from going on with our work."

Kiconco told us in an interview that there was no need to bring surveyors because he already has the land title.

"I surveyed it at the time I was buying it," he said.

Lukwago said the surveyors will need to produce a report at the end of the survey and clarify on the claims that Lusanja is in Wakiso but not Kampala.

"We have given the surveyors enough time to finish their work and we expect a report by the end of business today," he said.

The residents of Lusanja were excited and some said the survey will go a long way in resolving the longstanding dispute.

It is now seven months since the residents of Lusanja were left homeless when their houses were put down by people who claimed to own the land.
