Bobi Wine ‘escapes’ from Police to attend NRM’s Lyavala Burial

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament cum singer Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine has reportedly escaped from police watch in Magere, Wakiso district.

Police early this week said they had put Kyagulanyi under preventive arrest and to prove this, a number of police officers surrounded his home in Magere preventing him from stepping out.

However, under unclear circumstances, the legislator cum singer went missing from his home today until he posted on his social media pages saying he had gone to attend the burial of former Bugiri District chairperson Siraji Lyavala who died early this week.

“I had to find a way of attending the burial of our patriotic elder Haji Siraji Samanya Lyavala in Bugiri,” Bobi Wine posted.

“No matter how much the regime tries to keep us apart, we shall always find a way of coming together.”

A visit at the legislator’s home in Magere showed that police officers had vacated the premises.

On Wednesday, the State Minister for Internal Affairs Obiga Kania told parliament that Police had preferred charges against the legislator and was to appear before the Crime Intelligence and Criminal Investigations Directorate (CIID) to record a statement.

“Police are still in the premises of the Hon Kyagulanyi. The reason is police have decided to prefer charges against him and he has been summoned to appear at CID headquarters to record a statement,”Kania said.

Bobi Wine was expected at Kibuli today (Thursday) but circumstances under which he never appeared are still unknown.

Siraje Lyavala

Siraje Lyavala, the former Bugiri district chairperson succumbed to kidney failure on Tuesday.

He contested for the Bugiri Municipality seat within the NRM primaries but lost to Francis Oketcho.

Lyavala attributed his loss to internal wrangles within the ruling NRM party but later supported JEEMA’s Asuman Basaalirwa who later won the race.
