Ankole bishop urges schools to take physical exercises seriously
Muhumuza Ambrose
The Bishop for Ankole diocese Rt Rev Sheldon Mwesigwa has directed all diocesan schools to embark on doing exercise so they can enhance their physical fitness.
Speaking after the charity walk in preparations of President Museveni’s visit at the Ankole diocese, Bishop Mwesigwa said schools should make a daily routine for pupils and students to do physical exercises.
His call comes after he saw many pupils collapse after walking a few meters of the charity walk.
Besides schools, the prelate also implored diocesan staff to embark on doing exercises.
He said the staff had grown extremely fat which according to him could lead them to develop serious health complications.
He said the framers of the curriculum should always include physical fitness in the syllabus other than putting their emphasis on only books.
President Museveni is expected to visit the diocese on April 24 where he will be the chief guest at the commemoration of 100 years of Mbarara Junior School before visiting Mbarara Archdiocese where he is expected to install Archbishop Paul Bakyenga as the chancellor of St Joseph’s University.
He will later meet the Muslim community at Abubakar Mosque.
