KCCA FC beat Express to move to a point away from 13th league title

Only a miracle can now stop Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club(KCCA FC) from being crowned this year’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions after beating Express at home on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors opened the score when defender John Revita converted a spot kick after Disan Galiwango went down easily and the centre referee mistook it for a foul on the Express player by KCCA FC captain cum defender Timothy Awany in the 18 yard box .

The resultant penalty was taken well past Charles Lukwago, the home side goalkeeper for Express’ to break the deadlock at the StarTimes stadium only 14 minutes into the game.

At the stroke of half time Mustapha Kiiza scored from a beautiful free-kick that ensured both teams finished the first stanza at par.

In the 62nd minute, the Kasasiro boys were at it again with another free-kick after Allan Kyambadde was brought down.

Muzamiru Mutyaba made no mistake when his curled free-kick left Express’ Tony Kyamera dazzled as the ball went to his right hand side as he stayed on the left for KCCA FC to take the lead at Lugogo.

Mutyaba killed off the game when he received well a pass from Saddam Juma only for him to dazzle Express defenders before releasing a belter that right corner of the goal for his second and third goal of the day for KCCA FC.

The game ended 3-1 in favour of the Kasasiro boys and put them 59 points, nine above second placed Vipers Sports Club who had a day earlier lost at home to Uganda Revenue Authority.

With only three games left, KCCA FC need only one point to be crowned this year’s StarTimes Uganda Premier Leaugue champions and they will their 13th league title.

Speaking shortly after the game, KCCA FC tactician Mike Mutebi praised his boys for playing a good game against an organized team like Express.

“We had the task of trying to pass the ball quicker which we did and the general performance was above average,”Mutebi said.

“We are now 80% sure of winning the league and match against Ndejje University will determine our fate.”

Mutebi however said all is not done, adding that he wants to win the league title on a high note with a good number of points.

“This time our points must improve. We can’t be complacent. We must treat our remaining points as a final to win as many points as possible.”
