MTN Uganda has launched a new electronic system of payment called Momo Pay. Using the system, mobile users will now be able to transact without cash at any supermarket and any other retail shops.

The telecom company says this is one of the initiatives in pushing the country towards a cashless economy.

With the world increasingly moving away from the use of paper money, digitalization seems to be taking over most aspects of life and it is there that MTN Telecommunications Company decided to join the trend.

Momo Pay is intended to help MTN clients and customers in making payments. Christopher Ssali the manager MTN mobile money says Momo Pay will mean customers do not have to carry cash on themselves, ‘’When going shopping, one doesn’t have to move with so much money on them. All they need is to have it on their mobile money account and pay using Momo Pay.’’

Ssali says Momo Pay comes with advantages for mobile money outlets as well. Mobile money outlets will no longer have to keep cash in their lockers, reducing on incidences of theft as the system is now digitalised.

Momo pay will enable MTN users to keep records of their sales with the digital system.
