Bobi Wine sounds alarm over his Busabala Easter concert, police silent

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has accused the Uganda Police Force (UPF) of plans to block a scheduled Easter concert at One Love Beach, Busabala, along Entebbe road.

Kyagulanyi says police has declined to clear his Monday, April 22, 2019 show dubbed Kyarenga concert.

In his Tuesday meeting with the press, the legislator and performer said he had informed police a month ago that he plans to hold concerts at Busabala, Gulu, Arua and Lira. Police has not responded to

According to the 2013 Public Order Management Act (POMA), police must be informed three days at the least or fifteen days to such an event.

Kyagulanyi says they are yet to hear back from police. He is concerned that police plans to block his concert like it did on December 26, 2018. Police prevented the Boxing Day concert citing failure by the organisers to follow the regulations as set by law.

Kyagulanyi was flanked by music promoter Andrew Mukasa of Bajjo Events who said Bobi Wine has right to perform like any other musician. Mukasa added that police restrictions on Bobi Wine performances are affecting all music promoters who are afraid that chaos might erupt at their functions.

Mukasa says that whenever their functions are interrupted, they are unable to meet their obligations like servicing loans from banks. This has adverse effect on the music industry and those who earn a living from it.

But police spokesperson Fred Enanga says Kyagulanyi need have no fear as there are still several days to the concerts. He says police will respond to the legislator and music in time.
