Police in Katwe has arrested two youths for allegedly beating their friend to death in a bar fight in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
According to deputy Kampala Metropolitan area spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened when the group had gone at hangout at Wine bar in Makindye.
“While in the bar, a fight ensued among the three promoting the two to beat and fatally injured Bright Musisi .After the crime, they took off,”Owoyesigyire said.
According to one of the deceased’s relatives the three close friends had gone to hang out together but developed a misunderstanding that later culminated into a fight that later took the life of Musisi.
It is said that it took the intervention of other people in the bar to take Musisi to the nearby Malcom clinic but it was too late as he was pronounced dead on arrival at the health facility.
Meanwhile, a driver who helped take Musisi to the clinic reported the matter to Katwe police station.
It took the intervention of relatives who knew the suspects as close friends to Musisi to circulate their photos before police later arrested them.
The deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson identified the suspects as Henry Kalanzi and Nicholas Kirumira.
“The body was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem whereas investigations into the matter are continuing,”Owoyesigyire said.
He noted that the duo will be charged with murder.
A number of people have died after brawls in hangouts around Kampala.
In 2015, the country woke up to the news of one Johnnie Ahimbisibwe who was killed by a colleague, Ivan Kamyuka during a brawl in Guvnor Night club in Kampala.
The fight started when the deceased approached Kamyuka who was in the company of his(Ahimbisibwe)wife and in the ensuing brawl, Ahimbisibwe’s neck was cut by a glass thrown at him.
The two were known to each other.
In February 2018, singer Moses Ssekibogo, also known as Mowzey Radio was admitted at Case Medical Centre in Kampala after sustaining injuries on his head after a brawl at De Bar, a hangout in Entebbe.
He died a few weeks later and according to the postmortem report, the vocalist died due to blood that flowed into his brain after the fight that damaged his head.
