The Chief Justice, Bart Katureebe is unwell, multiple sources within the judiciary have told The Nile Post.

Sources told us that Katureebe, the head of government's third organ, was flown out of the country early this month to South Africa where he had a minor surgery for an undisclosed ailment.

Katureebe returned to the country on Monday but sources told us he is still evidently unwell.

For close to a month Owiny Dollo, his deputy, has been acting chief justice.

Sources told us that Katureebe's illness has become a matter of concern amongst his colleagues especially because the judiciary preferred to keep it a secret.

"Usually when the chief justice travels out of the country, he makes an official communication but this time nothing was said," one of the sources told us.

The illness had become the talk of the corridors and depending on who you speak to, the gravity of his illness ranges from serious to minor. One of our sources who has seen Katureebe said he was in a degree of discomfort and needed to be supported to move.

Solomon Muyita, the senior communications officer at the Judiciary told The Nile Post that there was no cause for alarm over Katureebe's health.

Muyita said Katureebe had had a minor surgery in South Africa and his health is fine.

"He is back in office and even met justices of the supreme court yesterday," Muyita said.

Katureebe was appointed chief justice on March 5, 2015.

He is the second senior official government to experience ill-health recently. Currently, the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga is recuperating from fatigue at Aga Khan hospital Nairobi.
