Ronald Kigongo breaks Express FC's 4-year jinx as they beat Express 1-0

Ronald Kigongo scored the only goal of the game as URA beat Express 1-0 to end a seven-match winless streak against the Red Eagles that had span over four years.

In a closely contested game at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, both sides created and wasted numerous goal scoring opportunities.

Michael Birungi, Ibrahim Kayiwa and Tony Odur missed many chances despite running through on goal.

Joachim Ojera and Mathew Tayo Odong were also culprits on the tax collectors end although visiting shotstopper Tony Kyamera should be credited for making some fine saves in between the sticks.

Skipper Shafik Kagimu also shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat while Siraje Sentamu was denied by the cross bar.

In the second half, both coaches made changes with the leftfooted Charles Sempa replacing Tayo, but only came close to score, missing a clear chance with the goal keeper beaten.

Peter Lwasa and Steven Muguchi also came on for the Taxmen while George Ssimwogerere withdrew Kayiwa for the silky Frank “Zaga” Tumwesigye and later Brian Umony and Ocholit also came on.

The game appeared to be headed for a goalless draw until the 77th minute when Ronald Kigongo slotted home after Kyamera and John Revita’s combined clearance fell on his right foot.

The win, express’s first over the six time champions since 2015, moves URA to third place on the log dislodging Mbarara city on the log with 42 points while Express stay 11th with 29 points.

In the other game played, Allan Kayiwa scored the only goal of the game as Tooro united beat Bul FC, in Tooro’s first game at the Wankulukuku stadium.

The victory sends Wasswa Bbosa’s Tooro united to sixth position on the log just below Bul fc both tied on 36 points, but with the latter having a better goal difference of five against Tooro’s three.
