Beti Kamya "overthrown" as Uganda Federal Alliance president

The leadership of the Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) has announced the replacement of Beti Olive Namisango Kamya as the party president with immediate effect.

In July 2016, President Museveni named Kamya, the UFA president as the Minister in charge of Kampala to serve in the NRM government.

She has since become a strong defender of Museveni and a critic of those who oppose him.

This week after Museveni formally accepted the endorsement of NRM MPs as sole presidential flag bearer in 2021, Kamya was among the people who jubilated.

UFA members on Tuesday told journalists that Kamya has on top of neglecting her duties tried to sell the party to the ruling NRM government.

“She is political prostitute and vendor who has tried to sell the Uganda Federal Alliance to President Museveni yet it contravenes our party constitution,” said the UFA spokesperson, Baker Byayi Ssenyonga.

“We cannot allow a person who preaches something during the day and does the opposite at night to be our president.”

Byayi said that after consulting the National Executive Committee, Central Executive Committee and district leaderships for the party, it was agreed to have Kamya booted as their president because she is representing divergent views from those of the party.

He said: “We cannot entertain Kamya going on drumming  support for Museveni whom the party wants removed from power. That circus must stop and this can only be fulfilled by disposing her as the Uganda Federal Alliance president. We have never been part of her alliance with NRM.”

“We have had so many political prostitutes in Uganda’s opposition parties and it is high time we do away with them. Kamya is one of them. We can no longer trust her to lead our party."

The party announced their national mobiliser, Francis Nsibirwa as the new president .

Byayi said they are in preparations to hold a national delegates conference where they will elect other party leaders.

They also vowed to make life difficult for Kamya.

“She can go ahead and stand for any leadership positions but wherever she stands, Uganda Federal Alliance will ensure we put a candidate against her.”

Efforts to reach Kamya were futile after we were told she was still in Kyankwanzi for the NRM retreat.
