Ronald Sebuguzi in driving seat of National Rally Championship after win in Mukono

By Daniel Lutaaya

2013 NRC champion Ronald Sebuguzi took cruise control of this year’s national championship after a domineering display in the second round in Mukono.

The three time NRC Champion with his co- driver Leon Senyange, cruising in their signature Mitsubishi Evo X, bossed the Central Motor Challenge over the two days.

The duo who led on day one, needed 1:43:23:1 to cross the finish line after the nine stages on day two, fending off close competition from four Subarus. His was the only Mitsubishi in a ‘Subaru – filled’ top five.

Moil crew’s Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba in their Subaru GVB came second close to two minutes shy of Sebuguzi, while IUEA’s Hassan Alwi and Siraj Kyambadde in a Subaru Impreza N14, arrived third after 1:46:42.5

Subaru Drivers Ponsiano Lwakataka and Godfrey Lubega completed the top five.

Gear box issues that led to a slow finish for super lady Suzan Muwonge in Mbarara in January, came back to haunt the defending champion this time not managing to limp to the checkered flag line as she bowed out without a point.

Arthur Blick Jr’s Mitsubishi EVO X and Duncan Mubiru Kikankane’s Subaru N14 betrayed them early on day two with mechanical problems, while returnees Yusuf Bukenya and Unisan Bakunda who missed the first round of the season in Mbarara, had a return to forget as turbo issues denied them any part in the day two action.

Sebuguzi’s win takes him to 160 points 20 ahead of Hassan Alwi in 2nd place of the NRC standings and with the next rally set for the weekend of 12th to 14th April in Masaka.
