Media personality Sarah Kagingo and State Minister for Tourism, Godfrey Kiwanda have been nominated in the fourth edition of the annual Ekkula tourism awards, the Nile Post has learnt.
Ekkula awards are meant to appreciate players in the tourism industry in Uganda.
This year’s edition has seen Soft Power Communications’ Kagingo has been pitted against Amos Wekesa, Jonathan Bennah, and Geofrey Baluku in the exceptional social media promoter.
The category looks at an individual who has been at the forefront of promoting Uganda’s tourism through the use of social media platforms.
Speaking to the Nile Post on Saturday morning, Kagingo said she was happy for being recognized for her efforts in promoting tourism and the country’s development at large.
“Many of my fellow nominees are directly employed in the tourism sector unlike myself. It’s a great honor for being recognized,”Kagingo said.
In the 2019 Ekkula awards, Minister Kiwanda has been nominated in the tourism personality of the year category.
Since appointment as minister, Kiwanda has been instrumental in promoting Uganda’s tourism through popularization of a number of items.
Speaking about the controversial Miss Curvy pageant recently, Kiwanda said his main aim is to ensure everybody talks about Uganda and her tourism industry.
““My intention is to bring everyone to discuss tourism. Everyone is now discussing tourism. Ugandans have never been involved in discussing tourism as they are today,”Kiwanda said while appearing on the Big Talk on the NXT radio hosted by Joseph Sabiti last month.
This year’s edition of the Ekkula Tourism awards will run under the theme, “sharing our cultural diversity through the digital transformation for bigger tourism numbers.”
Voting ends on March 27 via the official Ekkula website www.ekkulatourismawards.org
The awards ceremony will be held at Sheraton hotel on March 29.
