The German Ambassador to Uganda yesterday launched number plates for boats plying their business at Kasenyi landing site in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district.

The launch that was spearheaded by the German development agency, GIZ,  followed a directive from the Ministry of Works and Transport, ordering all boat operators operating on various lakes in the country to  acquire number plates for their boats in order to restore sanity among boat operators.

The German ambassador, Aggrey Konze, warned the government against misusing funds collected from fishermen through acquiring license plates for their boats.

The Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Vincent Bamulangaki Sempijja, expressed dismay on the way factory owners are polluting lakes through dumping dangerous chemicals in the lake and asked fishermen to join him in the fight so as to get rid of contaminators, who have made it habit to dump lethal chemicals in the lake.
