Sironko NRM supporters endorse Museveni as sole candidate

DAVID OCHIENG,

NRM supporters in Sironko over the weekend launched a mobilisation drive to solicit votes for President Museveni come 2021.

Even though Museveni is yet to publicly declare that he will stand in 2021, NRM's Central Executive Committee last month passed a resolution endorsing him as the party's sole flag bearer in the coming general elections.

In Sironko, supporters are now start traversing sub county to sub county, parish to parish, village to village as well as door to door, preaching about the achievements of NRM .

Headed by the Sironko NRM publicity secretary, Gerald Simbata, the members said that in 2021, they want all the district leadership to comprise of only NRM supporters.

Simbata said they had devised a plan to defeat FDC's Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Budadiri West legislator, who remains influential in the mountainous district.

"Any opposition member who plans to come here and contest for power will be crushed," Simbata said.

Sironko district has got only two constituencies of Budadiri East and Budadiri West, split equally among FDC and NRM members.

In 2016 elections, FDC's Kizza Besigye got 51% of the votes compared to Museveni's 47%.
