“As a mother who went through such a situation of giving birth to prematures two times, I thought it would be a good gesture to do something for fellow mothers with prematures,”Furaha said.

“I went through a lot when I gave birth to premature and it is that experience driving me to see that I can do something for mothers in the same situation.”

She said that at the fundraising she would be seeking to buy kits for 1000 premature babies from various parts of the country.

Each premie kit comprises nosal gastric tubes, diapers, feeding cups, receiving blankets, kangaroo wrapper, socks, head gear among other items used by a premature baby and each kit goes for shs50, 000.

Mama Tulia

Mama Tulia, a Kiswahili word for ‘Mother take heart’ was launched last year and according to its founder, Furaha, the idea behind the organization was birthed after her 2014 and 2016 debacles that saw her give birth to prematures and one of them died.

She says that through the Mama Tulia ministries, they raise awareness among pregnant women about pre-matures and how to live and look after them.

“I share the experience with fellow mothers to prematures and also give assistance to them and I deal with those who are not well off in terms of finances.”

She says that through the fundraise drive, she will be looking at raising money that would see her purchase kits for over 1000 babies.

The fundraising dinner is set for March 8 at Las Vegas hotel in Bunga, Kampala.
