Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana has been arrested as he tried to lead his supporters around Kiruddu hospital in a demonstration against the effects of sewerage from the hospital.
Ssewanyana, who had come with chains to close the hospital out frustration, was instead dragged into a police van and driven away.

Before his arrest, Ssewanyana charged that over 3 billion shillings was approved to rehabilitate the hospital’s sewerage line but clearly no work has been done. The community around the hospital continues to struggle with the toxic sewerage.

Owners of shops and food vendors around the hospital said that their businesses had been adversely affected the overwhelming bad odour from the sewerage. They expressed fear for the health of their clients and themselves.

Ssewanyana’s supporters tried to prevent police from arresting the vocal legislator but were overpowered.
On dragging him into the police car, another vehicle tried to block the vehicle from driving away with their MP.
During the scuffle, traffic along the route past Kiruddu to Munyonyo known as Salama road was partly blocked.
