Police FC unveil new players in bid to return past glory
Uganda Police Football Club has on Monday unveiled a group of four new players that have been recruited to reinforce them as the second half of this year’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League continues.
The function at the police headquarters in Naguru saw the team unveil former Kaizer Chiefs and Proline towering defender Ivan defender, Edgar Sharp Bwogi, Kennedy Kasozi ,Alfred Oginyera and Gerald Kiryowa.
Speaking at the function, the team chairman, AIGP Asan Kasingye said it is high time Police FC’s past glory returned.
“Our performance has been lukewarm but we are a team that has been in the super league consistently for more than three decades. We should not be struggling for the 6th or 7th place. Our aim should be winning the league,”Kasingye said.
Police in 2005 won their first and only Uganda Premier League trophy and the next year went on to lift the CECAFA Clubs Cup in 2006.
The team coached by Abdalla Mubiru is currently 8th on the 16 team log with 22 points after 16 games having won 6, drawn 4 and lost 6 games this season.
Kasingye said a lot needs to be done to ensure the past glory of the team returns adding that it is a collective effort by both players and management.
“Winning the league is achievable and we must reclaim our position. We must do the right thing at the right time. Apart from recruitment of good players, we must also improve on administration and remuneration.”
He also warned the new recruits against laxity while at the team saying they have not been recruited to fill vacant positions but to fight for them and improve the club.
