Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof.Barnabas Nawangwe has said he has no problem with the various Makerere University staff associations but rather with  MUASA chairperson, Dr.Deus Kamunyu.

In an email to the university academic staff and top management, Prof.Nawangwe who has been away for more than a week said that he wanted to clear the air claims that he is fighting the university staff associations including MUASA and MASA.

He insisted that Kamunyu was suspended over his own personal transgressions and not in any way related to his position as MUASA chairperson.

"He was suspended for his personal offenses and these were clearly highlighted in his letter of suspension. Those offenses are well known to everybody in the University," Prof.Nawangwe said .

" Dr. Deus Kamunyu Muhwezi was dismissed from MUBS for activities that made that institution ungovernable."

In the stinging email, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor said Dr.Kamunyu's bad record was also highlighted by his predecessor Prof.John Ddumba Ssentamu on a number of occassions.

"My predecessor, Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu gave a written warning to Dr. Deus Kamunyu Muhwezi for activities that tarnished the reputation of the University and colleagues."

Prof.Nawangwe said he has on several occasions warned and also counseled Kamunyu over his transgressions adding that the latter refused to heed to his advice.

He said that instead of reforming, Dr.Kamunyu only increased on his activities a thing he said was wrong.

"His intention was obviously to make the university ungovernable."

Nawangwe says in the email that he has put in place a committee to investigate Kamunyu's conduct as a person not as person but not as MUASA chairperson.

Dr.Kamunyu recently blasted Prof.Nawangwe over his actions to sack a number of staff at the university including himself .

Makerere University staff have entered the 11th day in the sit down strike following the suspension of their leaders by the University Council.
