The administration at Mengo is once again in the spotlight, as one of its own is named in a violent land eviction and grabbing in Mubende district. Omumbeja Nambi Ndagire, said to be Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s cousin and a State House confidant, has been dragged to the commission.
She was brought before the commission by residents of Busololo in Kasanda in current day Kasanda district and formerly Mubende district. The residents accuse the princess of using her security connections to terrorize the area and deprive hundreds of families of 640 acres of land.
The said piece of land is Singo block 399, plots 1 and 2, measuring 640 acres.
Paulo Muwanga, the original registered owner of the land who inherited it from his paternal uncle Misayili Kyeyune, accuses Princess Ndagire of manipulating the court system and harassing residents over the land. Muwanga claims he was one of Prince Ndagire’s victims as he was arrested on her orders.
With no money to hire lawyers, Muwanga gave away his land title to a money lender as surety to get money for legal costs, and before he knew it, the land title had been transferred into Princess Ndagire’s names.
Paulo Muwanga told the commission how Princess Ndagire using her security and state house connections has made life difficult for the residents with many fleeing the village after trumped up criminal charges were preferred against them
He says, “Our lives are at risk. She comes with armed people, beats us, fires bullets and we hear it’s because of her connections to state house and big peoplein the security circles.”
Last week, the commission visited the contested land to ascertain the extent of the threat.
