VIDEO: Parliament introduces app to help public monitor committees at work

Legislators have welcomed the introduction of a new technological application that will act as a platform for the electorates to interact with their representatives on business before the parliamentary committees.

According to some legislators, the new technological application that has been introduced at Parliament will also enable Ugandans living abroad and interested in the Ugandan parliamentary business participate in the parliamentary monitoring and policy analysis.

Inside the Ugandan parliamentary chambers, there is a designated area where members of public interested in attending the proceedings of parliament sit and follow in silence.

But because of the limited space in the parliamentary committee rooms, few or none of the electorate has been allowed to attend the committee proceedings.

Now according to the speaker Rebecca Kadaga, this app will act as a platform for the electorate to interact with their representatives on committee business that has been introduced.

Many MPs have welcomed the app as a good initiative to enable their electorate to keep up with how they are being represented in committees.

The new app according to MP Asuman Basalirwa of Bugiri Municipality and Kasiano Wadri of Arua Municipality,  will also enable Ugandans living abroad and interested in the Ugandan parliamentary business participate in the parliamentary monitoring and policy analysis.

The use of parliamentary informatics is a rapidly growing trend in Parliamentary monitoring and can automatically aggregate and organize information from parliamentary website and other information sources.
