No need of reminding me of what I have not yet accomplished-  says Museveni at NRM celebrations

President Museveni has said no one needs to remind him of what he has not yet accomplished in the 33 years that his government has been in power.

Speaking at the NRM celebrations in Tororo district on Saturday afternoon, Museveni said no one better knows what he has not been able to accomplish than he does, adding that he expects no reminders.

“I know my obligation and you don’t have to remind me. If you add up the kilometers of roads which are tarmacked, they are more than what is remaining. I know everything in my head so don’t waste your time reminding me,”Museveni said on Saturday.

He said that when the NRA went to the bush, a lot of things were not moving on well, adding that on capturing power in 1986, they turned around the country but said it  is appalling for people to start reminding him of the little he has not yet accomplished.

“1986 was a time when finally, the political thinkers and leaders who didn’t believe in sectarianism gained upper hand and took over the country. I know a few roads are remaining to be tarmacked but before commenting about my obligations, first talk about yours.”

He said there a few things that he needs to address including youth unemployment but noted that it is wrong for leaders to highlight what he has failed to do yet they too have failed to uplift their electorates from poverty.

Launches book on 20 years of UPE

President Museveni also launched a new book highlighting the success story for the Universal Primary Education that started 20 years ago.

The 222-page book details the successes and challenges of implementing UPE between 1997 and 2017.

Museveni said that he introduced the idea of free education during the 1996 presidential campaigns but was watered down.

“I introduced the idea during 1996 campaigns and Ssemwogerere(Paul Kawanga) laughed at me but I said God is there. We started UPE,”Museveni said.

He noted that currently, the fruits of free education are visible by all.

“The ones who were laughing at me should come and see what has been done that 20 years afterwards we tell the story of UPE.”

The First Lady and Education Minister Janet Kataaha Museveni said the program has had a big impact on the education sector in the country.

“We believe UPE has played a major role in transforming education in Uganda. It has enabled many children who may have not got opportunity to acquire education,”Mrs Museveni said.

She applauded President Museveni for originating the idea of free education in Uganda.

The function was also attended by former and current education ministers for Uganda since 1997.
