‘Ankole King’ looks to court in family dispute

The controversy surrounding the self-styled king of Ankole Umar Asiimwe and his family members appears to be escalating

Following his recovery and consequent discharge from hospital, Asiimwe proclaimed he intends to drag his father Edris Kamwesi and Salim Tugume (brother) for forcefully occupying his palace, allegedly torching his house and being a security menace to his life.

According to Asiimwe, these ‘intruders’ must face charges because ever since they set foot in his ‘palace’ they have caused pandemonium.

“I had reported to police to secure that palace, the suspects are still in the palace and I blame them. They have to face the charges, they are the ones who came in and spoilt everything, before them everything was okay,” Asiimwe said.

However, Asiimwe’s father maintained the self proclaimed king will not be allowed back to the palace unless he kneels and apologises to the entire family and the people.

“He has to kneel down and ask for forgiveness from all members of the family,” Kamwesi said.

But Asiimwe who currently is staying at a secret place said it is Kamwesi to apologise to him and not the other way round.

“Who is he(Kamwesi)? He is the one to apologise to the Ankole people, and the people of Uganda, not me,” Asiimwe said.

Asiimwe was battered allegedly by family members accusing him of withdrawing money from President Museveni and not sharing it with them. Police would later swing in action and arrest Asiimwe’s father and brother but released them shortly after seeking for bond.
