Certain ministers threatening me for speaking about ‘government evils’- Kadaga

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has revealed that certain heads in government are threatening her and trying to stop her from speaking about certain evils in the country, specifically corruption by officials and atrocities by security agencies.

Kadaga who was speaking during the opening of the parliament week on Monday disclosed that her stand against corruption has earned her smack from sections of leaders in government and the National Resistance Movement, who claim she is spoiling the name of the party and the country.

“Unfortunately, there are people in this country who think that if you belong to a certain political party, you should not speak about corruption. That you are spoiling the name of the party, spoiling the name of the country,” Kadaga said.

She however indicated that she will not give up the fight against corruption and will continue exposing corrupt officials.

“So, I want to just say that I will continue speaking about corruption and atrocities in this country.  We have no common agenda to be corrupt, we have never had an agreement on that issue, those who are corrupt are doing so individually and won’t expect protection from the speaker or the Parliament. We shall expose them,” Kadaga added.

The speaker also told the audience that a certain Minister at one time went to her office to threaten her to stop speaking about the army.

“Last year when I complained about the harassment of people on Lake Victoria, a minister came and told me that I should stop talking about the army, I asked why and he said because I am spoiling the army’s name.”

“I chased him out of my office, you can imagine someone threatening the speaker,” she said.

Kadaga has been outspoken about a number of issues despite being part of the ruling NRM. In 2017, Kadaga rebuked the act of security forces entering parliament and plucking out honourable members.
