A group of about 20 NRM youth activists today stormed the British High Commission offices in Kampala, protesting what they call as UK’s interference in the internal affairs of Uganda.
The group, which did not have a clear leader, carried placards with the words: “Uganda is a sovereign state.”
Police swiftly moved in and arrested some of them. The activists were donning yellow T-shirts and berets.
The protest follows a debate on Tuesday in the British Parliament where Dr Paul Williams of Stockton South Constituency moved a motion on Uganda;s declining democratic credentials.
“Serious concerns have been raised internationally about the Ugandan Government systematically undermining democracy in their country,” Dr Paul Williams said.
Government officials in Kampala have questioned the move pointing out that Uganda is no longer a colony of Britain.
