Opportunity Bank invests in water sanitation loans

Opportunity Bank has  decided to invest in a WASH credit facility to help improve access to clean water in city slums and other areas.

The bank took this initiative after a consultative research with its partner Water.Org which was done in western, eastern and central Uganda.

The research findings show that most Ugandans lack access to safe and hygienic sanitation facilities which results into many diseases and this also affects productivity of the people.

Speaking to journalists while handing over the facility to the residents of Kamwokya, the CEO Opportunity Bank, Tineyi Mawocha said 85% of the people who have access to water do not have access to safe and clean water for domestic use which is very big dilemma.

He said it is upon this research that Opportunity Bank decided to invest in Water and Sanitation loans, to enable people have access to safe water for domestic use, and good sanitation through the construction of modern and standard toilets, septic tanks, sewerage collection, bathrooms and shower spaces.

He said the bank working with Water.org will offer technical advice in terms of training on handling and setting up the facilities .

He said: "We believe that by doing this we are laying a foundation for people to live a purposeful life of dignity, value and sustainability."

The bank said the project will be extended to other areas until all Ugandan have access and are empowered with safe and clean water.
