Museveni warns youths against ‘miracle wealth’; ‘Gov’t has better plans for you’

President Museveni has warned youths against what he termed as miracle wealth in the forthcoming year.

Delivering his end of year and new year  message at his country home in Rwakitura on Monday evening, Museveni said despite being happy with youths who embrace the word of God, he is not happy with those looking for ‘miracle wealth’ from the churches.

“I salute the many youth that flock the worship centres to pray to God and to listen to the scriptures. I only caution them on illusions of miracle wealth,”Museveni said.

He said God only helps those who help themselves, adding that they will not get the wealth they want by prayers and flocking churches only but also working hard.

Museveni also warned youths against alcohol and drugs which he said would destroy their lives.

“Youth does not mean recklessness, extravagance, alcohol or drugs. We never wasted money on alcohol, luxuries, reveling (concerts) or foreign travel.  The youth who listen to our advice, will succeed.”

Better plans in 2019

Over 78 per cent of Uganda’s population is   below the age of 30 which indicates that Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world whereas the national poverty rate has increased from 20% to 27% in 2017.

One of the biggest challenges to youths in Uganda is unemployment but according to Museveni, government has better plans for them in the forthcoming year.

He explained that there are already many projects and others are still coming but all are tailored towards creating employment for youths all over the country.

“I am very optimistic about their(youths) future because we have already laid quite a foundation for them. Projects have already started that can convert un-employed youth to job creators and property owners. Through grants or low-cost revolving loans, these programs will be expanded,”Museveni noted.

“At the same time, the skilling of the youths in technical schools or through special courses, will continue. These youths will be helped to produce goods and services for import substitution and export promotion in addition to the many internal distribution products and services they are already producing.”

The president however urged local leaders and their NRM counterparts to ensure they help youths in their localities and also give them advice where necessary.
