Unstoppable, rampant Liverpool destroy Arsenal to go nine clear
Jjurgen
Klopp’s Liverpool extended their imposing lead at the top of the Premier League
table when they demolished Unai Emery’s Arsenal 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Arsenal were expected to provide a test for Klopp’s side but however fell short of expectation when they were offered a footballing lesson that saw the Reds’ title credentials go up at Anfield.
Liverpool
came from behind after an Ainsley Maitland Niles 11th minute game to
respond with an emphatic 4-1 lead at half time before adding one goal to make
it five.
Following
Arsenal’s opener, the Reds had within three minutes levelled the matters but
within two more they were infront before adding two more before half time at
Anfield.
Goals
by Brazilian international Roberto Firmino who scored three times, Sadio Mane
and Mohammed Salah were the masterminds of the Arsenal massacre at the hands of
the rampant Liverpool that left the London side bewildered without any answer
beyond anger having been beaten into submission.
The
Arsenal team proved a delicacy to Firmino who had not scored
a home league goal since April but his hat-trick ensured he became only the
third Brazilian to score a Premier League treble, after Afonso Alves and
Robinho.
Earlier, second placed Tottenham had faltered at their own
turf when they were given a taste of their own medicine by Wolves.
A run of
free-flowing, thrilling victories had just juddered to an unexpected end in
north London when Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves scored three times past Mauricio
Pochettino’s side.
The loss
brought to a halt, to Tottenham’s scintillating form that saw Potchettino’s side
emerge as serious contenders for this year’s title.
Their defeat
and later victory by Jurgen Klopp’s boys only ensured Liverpool are now nine
points clear on top of the Premier League and go into the new year unbeaten.
