Nakaseke residents weep before land probe

More than 30 residents of Nambeya village Ssemuto Sub-county in Nakaseke district weeped yesterday as they narrated how a businessman had evicted them and rendered them homeless.

The residents led by a one Charles Lwanga pinned Businessman Gordon Kisawuzi before the land probe accusing him of issuing threats to kill them.

Lwanga cried before the commission while explaining the situation on the ground.

"Kisawuzi and some officers at the district land commission in Bukalasa have connived and they want to evict us from the land. He (Kisawuzi) always comes to our homes and tells us to either buy our interest in the land or we vacate," Lwanga said. 

Lwanga told the probe that Kisawuzi not only wants them to vacate the land but they have also faced death threats.

The residents want the commission to rescue them from the businessman and intervene in the matter.

The commission tasked the residents not to fear and issued a directive to the concerned parties not to evict people until investigations are done.

"We will write and issue a directives to the concerned parties not to evict anyone until investigations are done because if evictions are carried out, it will affect the investigation," said Justice Catherine Bamugemerire, the chair of the commission.

The disputed land is located at Nambeya Village Ssemuto sub-county Nakaseke district and covers 329 acres.
