Two BOU staff remanded for neglect of duty

Two Bank of Uganda staff have been remanded to Luzira prison until December 06 for neglect of duty.

Charles Mollo and Beatrice Kyambadde denied the charge at City Hall Magistrates Court today.

The two are accused of failing to stop former Executive Director for Supervision Justine Bagyenda from illegally removing central bank documents from the premises. The duo were arrested last Thursday, November 29.

Bagyenda is currently part of a group of high ranking BOU officials facing the parliament’s COSASE over the closure of several defunct banks that include Crane Bank.

The visibly distraught Omollo and Kyambadde pleaded not guilty to the charge. Kyambadde, who was accompanied by her daughter, broke down and wept.

In her Monday submission, Bagyenda had pleaded for leniency for the staff who were handed over to Police for giving false information to the committee under oath.

Prosecution told court that investigations into the matter are not yet complete and asked for more time.

Bagyenda's official driver Job Turyahabwe and bodyguard  Judith Adikoret did not appear in court.
