Museveni meets victorious Cranes, tells them to avoid alcohol, promiscuity

President Museveni last evening met players of the triumphant Uganda Cranes which qualified for Afcon 2019 in Cameroon after beating Cape Verde 1-0, on Saturday. He congratulated them for the feat.

Museveni said that from his footballing experience, he knows that the following ingredients are important for the game; stamina, skill and teamwork.

"Stamina is critical because you do a lot of running. You must eat well, exercise and avoid alcohol, smoking and womanising," he said.

He said Africans are very strong naturally and if they train well, they can dominate the sports world.

Museveni said government will soon start repairing old stadia and build new ones to nurture sportsmen.

"I hear there is some corruption in the sports sector and I have asked the minister to deal with it. Most support, however, should be given to trainers and players,"

Cranes still have to play Tanzania away in a formality game.

As a parting shot, Museveni told them: "Please make sure you do not lose that game."
