Painters tipped on paint systems, standards
Sadolin Paint Uganda yesterday held a one-day seminar in Kampala to sensitise architectural painters on the need for the observance of high professional standards in the discharge of their contracts.
Akzonobel Commercial Director for East Africa, Mr. Deon Nieuwoudt, who led the discussions and demonstrations said the training session was geared at facilitating, guiding and providing up-to-date technical advice and tips for painters. It attracted painters from Kampala and other parts of the country.
"One of the objectives of the training programme is to help to develop the painter’s knowledge of basic paint systems," Mr Nieuwoudt said.
It was also to help improve their understanding of the tools of application, the characteristics of substrates (substances that are acted upon by certain organisms) as well as the preparation of surfaces for painting. The seminar gave the painters the opportunity to learn how to apply a wide range of products and understand the application properties.
Mr Nieuwoudt further noted that Uganda's estate development sector was growing, "And there is the need to inject a high level of professionalism into the painting aspect of the housing industry, hence the importance of the training programme".
He said the decorative coatings (painting) seminar was also in line with the company's policy to help protect human lives, as well as the environment through the marketing of top quality products such as the Sadolin Wallguard and Rainshield brands which were cost effective and environmentally friendly.
