Vipers SC Vs KCCA FC Preview: StarTimes Uganda Premier League - Match Day VI

It's the biggest fixture of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League - at least they say. A fixture that seeks to redefine history - a rivalry that is fast becoming what SC Villa and Express used to present in the feat - two of the most star-studded sets of players in the local league.

  • Vipers have won three of the last five meetings in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League
  • The two sides last played to a goalless draw in 2016
  • The last four-meetings have produced at least more than two goals

Leaders Vipers SC entertain a KCCA FC team that’s got off to a comparatively poor start to the season, winning three-games and drawing two in five (with an inferior scoring form than the hosts).

But the Venoms have also started showing signs they can be stopped, following that draw in their last outing.

Regardless, Vipers remain favorites going into this game - at home, and carrying a 22-match unbeaten run since November last year.

KCCA FC manager, Mike Mutebi believes his side always presents the stronger character and does not mind what current form predicts.

"We do not play proactive. The opposition has to react to what we have set on the table because we have a style of play. KCCA is setting their own agenda. I would not mind the game ending 5-4, of course in favour of KCCA." said Mike during a press briefing at the StarTimes Stadium - Lugogo.

With Tadeo Lwanga suspended and Livingstone Mulondo ruled out with a knee problem he sustained in their last game against Kirinya Jinja SS means they will have to look for a new source of inspiration to deal with the visitors.

Aggrey Madoi returned to training with the rest of the team but may not be ready to take part and Yayo Lutimba could retain his position in the starting team.

Derrick Ochan picked up a shoulder injury during last team’s training but that won't be much of a worry to the Kitende-based side.

KCCA FC will have Fillbert Obenchan returning to the starting team after returning from suspension.

Defeat would see KCCA FC fall five-points behind their league-leading rivals, just six-games into the campaign.

The last league meeting between the two teams in the League ended in a 3-2 win for the hosts which was an essential result in their title winning campaign.

Overall, KCCA FC have been more imposing in the last meetings overall, beating Vipers to the Uganda Cup and FUFA Super Cup respectively.
