Woman allegedly cuts child’s stomach open, claims Satan did it

Police in Kampala are holding a 32-year old woman for allegedly taking her 2-year old daughter, Nalunga Lilian’s life by slitting her stomach open and removing intestines.

The woman identified Nakalema, is said to have cut the child’s stomach, emptying it of intestines before rushing to Mulago hospital to seek treatment as cover up.

It is at the hospital that nurses realised the child did not have intestines and had already died hours prior. The staff then called police to arrest Nakalema.

On arrest Nakalema claimed that she doesn’t know how the child’s stomach was slit open.

“I believe it is Satan who slit my child’s stomach open, I cannot do it,” Nakalema said in tears.

When police revisited the alleged scene of crime, they discovered that Nakalema with another person still at large were working as house keepers at the residence of a one Annet, who lives in Canada. Annet however was out of the country by the time of the alleged crime.

Neighbours claim that they heard Nakalema praying for several hours, calling upon Pastor Bugingo and God. After three hours of prayer, she went suddenly quiet.

“She was calling upon Bugingo (pastor) in prayer to help sustain the child. I think this is because she prays from his church. At about 5:00am, they stopped and one of them took children to school” one of the neighbours said.

According to Marriam At0o, the Detective Inspector of Police attached to Wandegeya police post said they have successfully discovered a few leads to the murder.

“We are succeeding, we are getting what we want,” the officer said.
