Vibrant debate as Geopolitics conference attracts hundreds

The Kampala Geopolitics Conference that kicked off at Makerere University yesterday attracted hundreds of people as they gathered to discuss some of the most pertinent issues affecting the world.

At the conference several prominent panelists gave their take on what they think needs to be done to address issues like youth unemployment, corruption, climate change and terrorism.

The two-day event sponsored by the French Embassy in partnership with Makerere University ends today.

The French Ambassador Stephanie Rivoal, said the conference is aimed at providing a platform for building strong free flow of ideas and open discussions in a creative yet informative way contributing to the generation of knowledge.

“Geopolitics is not a threat but rather an issue of everyone because it is the world’s reality, therefore, it stimulates the intellectual discourse,” she said.

She said her embassy was proud to provide a platform for debate of key issues saying some of the discussions will generate knowledge for  researchers, government and will encourage the creation of an open-minded society.

The Makerere Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe said that the university is proud to host the conference which he hoped will lead to free exchange of ideas cutting across contemporary, local and international geopolitics.

There will be more than 21 panel discussions and 102 presenters at the conference.
