One shot dead as armed thugs attack widow to former FRONASA fighter Zubair Bakari

One person was shot dead last night by police after thugs attacked Shamsa Bakari, the widow to the late Zubair Bakari, one of the former FRONASA fighters at Ssenge in Wakiso district.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened on Monday night when thugs armed with pangas attacked Bakari’s home prompting family members to make an alarm that attracted neighbors who in turn called police to their rescue.

“We responded quickly and managed to disable one of the attackers by shooting in the leg but unfortunately he died due to over bleeding,” Owoyesigyire said.

He added that police has started investigations into the attack as well as looking for the other attackers who managed to escape.

“The victim(Shamsa Bakari) is admitted at Mengo hospital whereas the body of the suspect has been taken to Mulago for a postmortem.”

He added that the items including pangas recovered from the attacks will be used to help police in investigations into the matter.

Zubairi Bakari was one of the founding fighters for Front for National Salvation(FRONASA), a rebel group founded by Yoweri Museveni in 1972 to fight then President Idi Amin's regime.
