The Kampala Metropolitan Area Police commander Moses Kafeero has asked residents in Kasangati to always work closely with various security organs to help fight criminality in their area.

Kasangati is home to opposition strongman Dr.Kizza Besigye.

Speaking to locals during a meeting attended by the Kampala Metropolitan Police Liaison Officer, Kampala North Regional Police Commander and the Kasangati DPC, other police officers, local leaders and residents, Kafeero told locals that emphasis should always be put on crime prevention measures rather than wait to face the consequences of crimes that may go undetected.

“All leaders have an obligation to cooperate and fulfil their duties efficiently in order to safeguard the development and peace in Kampala Metropolitan Area and therefore crimes can be prevented if we work together and increase our efforts,”Kafeero said.

He appealed to the leaders to campaign against drugs and alcohol abuse, which usually fuels crimes such as housebreaking, burglary, murder, rape and gender-based violence in their areas.

Kafeero also pledged to strengthen community policing by building community-based crime intelligence systems but called upon local leaders to always detect crime before it happens and report to authorities.

The local leaders appreciated the good relationship with police on top of professionalism but noted that there are a few areas that need to be addressed.
